Move-Out Cleaning Checklist Template — Free PDF & Editable Download

A move-out clean is judged once, at the walkthrough, often with a deposit riding on it. This checklist works room by room through the standard a landlord or agent will apply — inside the oven, inside the fridge, inside the cabinets — and finishes with the part most free checklists leave out entirely: a walkthrough record with photos, issues and sign-off, so what was done is provable afterwards.

What's included

Who should use it

How to use it

  1. Print one per property and take it on a clipboard — this is a working document, not office paperwork.
  2. Tick items as each room is finished, not at the end from memory.
  3. Complete the walkthrough record before you leave: photos taken, any pre-existing damage noted, and who you walked through with.
  4. Give the client or agent a copy (photo or scan) and keep the signed original on file.

Printing & customization

Prints on Letter or A4 across two pages. The editable version lets you pre-fill the property and client details before printing, so the crew only carries the tick-boxes.

Usage licence

Free for your own business use — print it, fill it in, adapt the editable version, use it with your clients, as often as you like. Please do not redistribute the blank files, upload them to other template libraries, or resell them; if a fellow cleaner could use it, link them to this page instead. FormNest keeps the copyright in the underlying design.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a move-out checklist different from a normal cleaning checklist?

Depth and evidence. Inside appliances and cabinets, baseboards and tracks — the items an inspector checks — plus a walkthrough record with photos and sign-off, because the clean is judged after you have left and may decide a deposit.

Should I photograph the finished clean?

Yes — the walkthrough section has a line for it. Time-stamped photos of each room, taken as you finish it, are the simplest protection a cleaning business can have when a deposit is disputed.

What if something is damaged before we start?

Note it in the walkthrough record before cleaning that room, and photograph it. Recording pre-existing damage protects you from being blamed for it afterwards.

Can tenants use this for their own move-out?

They can — the standard is the same. It is written for businesses (keys, team, agent sign-off), but nothing stops a tenant working through it room by room.
